Although a summer vacation is supposed to be a break from your everyday life and a chance to refresh and relax, sometimes you just need a vacation from a vacation. During your holiday you may experience all kinds of different problems and it is quite important to learn to deal with them. These are some of the usual issues that people encounter during a seaside vacation, and some useful tips on how to fix them.

Skin and Hair

When you get back from your vacation, give yourself time to nurture your hair and skin the right way. If you suffer from sunburns, the best way to soothe your sore skin is to apply a lotion which contains aloe vera. Aloe products contain lidocaine (an anesthetic that can help relieve sunburn pain). Also, cucumbers are known to have natural antioxidant and analgesic properties.

If you have issues with sea salt drying out and irritating your skin, don’t go straight for the strongest moisturizers you can find. You will create a really unbalanced situation on your skin, and you don’t want that. Instead, go mild, with organic skin care products after a day on the sun, so as not to mess up your Ph levels any further.
Never forget your hair.

The combination of sun and sea salt has devastating effects on your follicles, healthy as they are. So, before you decide to pay a post-vacation visit to your hairdresser you can recover your hair’s shine and bounce with DIY hair oils made from lavender, chamomile, sandalwood and some carrier oil of choice such as jojoba or almond oil.

Injuries

Unfortunately, there is always a chance you’ll get hurt or injured on the beach. Stepping (or even sitting) on a sea urchin is all too common a beach injury. If something like this happens, there is no need to panic -just visit the nearest emergency room. They are very used to these injuries on the coastline, and will take the pedicellariae out pronto, but know that the recovery will take time.

If you do have some needles remaining after your trip to the doctors, you can take care of it yourself: immerse the wound in hot water, remove the spines with tweezers and then remove the pedicellariae with shaving cream and a razor. It is important to wash the wound with soap and fresh water and also not to close it with tape or glue of any kind.

Partying

If you are going on a vacation with a bunch of friends, partying every night is going to be inevitable. This is why a post-vacation detox is necessary if you wish to go into the office with some dignity and purpose. The best recovery is, naturally, drinking plenty of liquids, and preferably smoothies made from fresh fruits and vegetables and herbal detox teas. Staying hydrated is crucial, especially during the summer heatwaves.

Sleep

Last but not least, get some sleep. If you are flying, you will suffer from jet lag and should try to get at least one day of sleep before going back into work. If you are traveling via something more grounded, you won’t be as tired, but you will still need at least 24h in a darkened room to recollect yourself after your summer vacation. Getting a fair amount of sleep and resting well is very important for both your physical and mental health.
